Competency Based Medical Education: Navigating the Winds of Change

Halifax Convention Centre
April 28-May 1, 2018 | Halifax, Nova Scotia

First Time Attendees

What should I bring?

Don't forget your laptop or tablet, phone, chargers, notepad, pens/pencils, and lots of business cards

What should I wear?

Business casual attire, with layers (it may be chilly or warm inside one of the presentations),  and comfortable shoes (you’ll be walking between sessions, and with the conference being held at 2 venues, it may be up to a 15 min. walk).

Oral Presentations vs. Workshops vs. Poster Presentations - what's the difference?

A poster presentation, or facilitated poster session, is when the authors of the posters  present their findings. They are in groups, divided by theme, of up to 12 presenters. These group sessions last for 90 minutes, and are facilitated by a volunteer . Each presentation lasts for 5 minutes, with 2-3 minutes for questions after. Once a presentation is finished, you move on to the next poster in that grouping.

An oral presentation is a group of up to 6 individual presenters that have been grouped together based on theme and or topic. Each presenter has 10 minutes to present, and 5 minutes for questions.

A workshop is a 90 minute presentation by an individual or group of people on 1 topic.

When should I arrive?

The conference techinically begins on Saturday, April 28 2018 at 4:00PM with the Wendell MacLeod Memorial Lecture, but if you are registered for any pre-conference workshops, they can start as early as Friday, April 27, 2018.

Make sure you arrive in time to adapt to the time change, if applicable, and you have time to settle in. If you have time, head over to the venues and make sure you know your way around, i.e. where registration is, where the plenary sessions are held, and the locations of the sessions you plan on attending. Floorplans, maps amd programs can be found here.
